My passion

I love catering. I love the creativity with it. I love being able to make people happy by creating fantasy in the form of food. I love making peoples imagination come to life in the form of something edible. I love hearing "and you can eat that?", I love knowing I have made a day like a wedding just what she imagined. I have had quite a bit of interest lately in my food and cakes and that makes me very happy. If I could actually make money doing what I love that would be incredible. I am very soon going to start a "Lola's Catering" blog / website. Lola's is the name of my "business". Why Lola's when my name is very obviously not Lola? Well My mother's name is Lola and my grandmothers name is Lola. They taught me everything I know about food and they instilled in me the love for food and making it look just as incredible as it tastes (because, lets be honest, people eat with their eyes first) and because when I think about the attributes I want my food and my food business to have I describe those 2 women. Fun, elegant, classy, creative, pleasing, able to stand on it's own merrits, a step ahead, caring, modern without forgetting the past that brought us this far... You get the idea. So I named it for them.

JD's cousin in Jasper have recently bought a florist. It is Faye's Florist and owned by Loretta Tyre. It is a beautiful flower shop with so much potantial it makes my head spin. It has a full old fashioned soda / ice cream bar and a full florist. She comissioned me to do a wedding cake this past weekend and I had a blast. I make the cake and had it all crumb coated and ready to go early Sat morning. I put it together and decorated it at her shop Sat. I had a blast. It was so fun to work on the cake in an environment like that. Oh the creativity was just bursting out of me. I kept getting so many thoughts and ideas of what I would love to do in the store. I wish it was mine LOL. Loretta is going to start recomending me to brides. I am very excited about that and all of the opportunities that can bring. I will have business cards and fliers and a book for her to show her clients. Please keep me in mind as I am going to start pushing the business. I haven't really done that in the past just kind of done things for family and friends.

This is the cake I did this weekend. Enjoy the pictures, look for more and look for my website / blog coming soon!

This cake is a sour cream pound cake with buttercream frosting. It is white with red dots and rhinestones on each tier. The topper is a grouping of red roses. The tiers are alternately wrapped in red and white satin ribbon. The cake is inspired by the brides bouquet. Her bouquet was the red roses and each rose had a rhinestone in the center, it was wrapped with the red and white ribbon.

I can't wait for your other blog!!!! Get on it, girl!!!! You are so talented! I have seen some things you've done and of course, your Mama has described (in detail) other things! You really could get a good business going! I LOVE THE NAME!!! Don't forget to charge what you're worth! You'll still be able to underbid but if you underbid too far, people think.....hmmmm, she must not be very good for those prices! I knew a photographer that did that and peple wouldn't hire him! He was a pretty good photographer though!

Yea that is where I have a problem, but I am going to try my hardest to stop. I want people to have their fantasy. Like with a wedding I want the bride to have her fantasy cake. I have added an extra tier at no extra charge because as I was making it it looked squatty and I didn't really like it and called her and asked if she wanted another tier. She couldn't really afford it but would have loved it so, I did it. I love making beautiful cakes and georgeous food, the money has always been in the background. I am going to change that a bit. The food will still be my passion and the primary focus but I am going to try to actually make some money doing what I love now. I am going to have to run it like a business not like a hobby. LOL.

I'm so excited for you!

Man... I'll never know how people get their cakes so smooth... but I'll just chalk that up to the fact that I CAN'T BAKE!

Hugs.

Good for you! I love to cook, but catering makes my insides quake. Seems like I always have at least one culinary disaster when I'm pulling off a family party, so doing it for pay would really freak me out. Yep, I'm a chicken. I can't wait to see what you post.
